BY CLOSURE MOTION
Gate / Sliding Wedge or Disc
How the closing member moves relative to the seat — the geometry behind the family name.
Choosing Gate / Sliding Wedge or Disc
Gate motion slides a wedge, disc or knife across the passage. The required travel and seating force depend on the gate arrangement. A motion-class match does not make a wedge gate, parallel slide and solids-handling knife gate equivalent.
What to include in the RFQ
- Identify the gate construction and total stroke.
- Provide maximum closing differential and expected solids or deposits.
- Request stem clearance, actuator thrust and guide/seat maintenance details.
Selection scenario
For a replacement package, compare stroke, face-to-face length and gate direction with the existing layout. Record space above the bonnet as well as the pipe dimensions.
Common selection mismatch
A sliding gate description does not establish bidirectional sealing or tolerance of settled solids.
