Function, family, actuation, closure motion, end connection, pressure, temperature and service medium. This is the public taxonomy of the KanBeng valve desk — not a stock list and not a certified selection program.
There is no single number for “how many kinds of valve exist”. A valve is classified by what it does in the line, how it is driven, how the disc or plug moves, how it is joined to the pipe, and the pressure and temperature it is asked to live in. KanBeng keeps those axes separate so a buyer can enter from the language they actually have — “wafer butterfly, PN16, electric, cooling water” — instead of waiting for a catalogue series code.
This map is the public taxonomy of the valve desk. It is not a stock list, not a certified selection program, and not a claim that every Chinese factory uses the same geometry behind a shared family name. Gate, globe, ball and butterfly are filing cabinets. The seat, packing, face-to-face standard and actuator remain the order.
Pick an entrance, then finish on an RFQ
- If you know the job — isolate, prevent reverse flow, throttle, relieve, divert — start with function, then name the family on the RFQ.
- If you already have a family (gate, ball, butterfly), open the type node and still write size, class, end connection, actuator and the fluid.
- If the constraint is the actuator or the end type, use those axes as filters. They do not fix Cv, leakage class or fire-safe listing.
- If you only have a pressure or temperature word, treat it as a shortlist, then put PN/Class, design standard and seat material in the RFQ.
Classification is a map, not a sizing program. Empty model tables will appear later; they are not a finding that the valve cannot be sourced in China. Always finish on an RFQ with size, class, ends, actuator, fluid and documents — or on a published factory record when one exists.

What the valve is asked to do in the line — isolation, non-return, regulation, protection or diversion.

Temperature bands used to start a shortlist. Seat, packing and body material still have to be written into the RFQ.
By Service Medium
Liquid, gas, steam or slurry names used by buyers. The node is a route, not a corrosion allowance.
Questions buyers actually ask
So how many valve types are there?
There is no absolute count. Everyday process valves are a few dozen named families. Counting by function, actuation, structure, connection and duty envelope multiplies the labels without creating new physics. Use the axis you have; do not hunt for a magic integer.
Are Chinese ball-valve or butterfly-valve series interchangeable between factories?
No. Shared family names are a sourcing convenience. Seat design, stem seal, face-to-face (GB, ASME, ISO, API), leakage class and actuator mounting still vary. Demand the drawing and the standard on the nameplate.
Does KanBeng already publish valve model rows like pumps?
The valve zone starts as a classification and RFQ desk. Factory CRM records are being indexed privately. Published, evidence-labelled valve models will appear on a node when a normalized record exists — not before.
Can I name a preferred valve factory on an RFQ?
Yes. Leave it blank for an independent shortlist. Naming a plant does not skip evidence review, and a listing is not a certificate.
