Choosing Electric Actuated Valves
An electric actuator package must match valve motion, torque or thrust and operating duty. On-off and modulating services differ. Power supply, control signals and behavior after power loss need explicit agreement; a motorized valve is not automatically a fail-safe assembly.
What to include in the RFQ
- Specify supply voltage/frequency, command signal and position feedback.
- Provide duty cycle, travel time and maximum valve operating load.
- Define the required power-loss state and request the mechanism that achieves it.
Selection scenario
For a remote pump-station isolation valve, compare normal travel time with the required shutdown response. If the site requires movement after power loss, obtain evidence for the complete actuator package.
Common selection mismatch
Do not infer stored-energy fail action from the word electric. Confirm enclosure, environmental and hazardous-area requirements independently.
