Diverting, Mixing & Three-Way Valves

What the valve is asked to do in the line — isolation, non-return, regulation, protection or diversion.

Choosing Diverting, Mixing & Three-Way Valves

Diverting and mixing valves route fluid between ports. A three-port body can contain different internal flow arrangements and can be intended for diversion, mixing or changeover. Use a port diagram and a sequence of operating positions to describe what the system needs.

What to include in the RFQ

  • Name each port and show the permitted paths in every commanded position.
  • Specify whether streams may mix and what leakage between closed paths is acceptable.
  • Give pressure at all ports, flow direction, actuator state and cleaning requirements.

Selection scenario

For switching between two process destinations, show whether an intermediate position may connect both routes. Review the transition behavior and failure position with the process operator.

Common selection mismatch

A three-way label does not establish mixing suitability or cross-contamination protection. The internal arrangement must support the intended sequence.
