Pressure-Reducing Valves

What the valve is asked to do in the line — isolation, non-return, regulation, protection or diversion.

Choosing Pressure-Reducing Valves

A pressure-reducing valve regulates downstream pressure. Direct-acting and pilot-operated arrangements have different response and installation considerations. The pressure setpoint is only one field: available inlet pressure, demand range and downstream equipment limits also matter.

What to include in the RFQ

  • Provide inlet-pressure variation, outlet setpoint and minimum/maximum demand.
  • Request operating range, pressure regulation behavior and the sensing arrangement.
  • Identify downstream allowable pressure, protection, straining and condensate management where applicable.

Selection scenario

For a steam branch feeding lower-pressure equipment, review the complete reducing station, including drainage and downstream overpressure protection, before approving the regulator alone.

Common selection mismatch

A pressure regulator is not a substitute for a separately specified overpressure protection device. Establish the failure case in the system design.
