Choosing Welded Ends (SW / BW)
Socket-weld and butt-weld ends require different joint preparation. A welded valve quote should identify the pipe material, dimensions and welding requirements, as well as how the valve internals are protected during fabrication and later serviced.
What to include in the RFQ
- Specify SW or BW, pipe outside diameter, wall thickness and end preparation.
- Identify valve/pipe materials and the required welding and examination procedures.
- Obtain the manufacturer installation instructions, including heat-sensitive component handling.
Selection scenario
For a permanently welded process line, plan how a wearing trim or seat is accessed after installation. Review assembly length and fabrication sequence before ordering.
Common selection mismatch
A welded connection does not establish the body rating, leak tightness or acceptable welding procedure by itself.
