Choosing Oil & Gas Valves

Oil and gas describes a broad service group that can include liquids, dry or wet gases and contaminated streams. Material, sealing and actuator requirements depend on the actual fluid and project specification. Sour-service, fire-test or emissions claims must be supported for the offered assembly.

What to include in the RFQ

  • State phase, composition, temperature, pressure and contaminants.
  • Identify isolation or control duty and the required failure state.
  • Request the specific material, fire/emissions or project qualification documents when required.

Selection scenario

For a remote isolation point, compare the valve sealing construction and actuator failure behavior together. Record the project-required evidence rather than assuming it from an oil-and-gas catalogue label.

Common selection mismatch

Industry application lists do not prove suitability for every hydrocarbon, sour fluid or safety duty.
